The European Union (EU) continues to work closely together with Albanian institutions to support reforms and prepare the country for the next steps to be done in the integration process. In this process the Bank of Albania (BoA) plays a central role due to its contribution to the achievement of macroeconomic stability. With this Twinning Project the Banca d’Italia and the Deutsche Bundesbank work together to strengthen the institutional capacities of the BoA. Certain components of the project are implemented by Banque de France and National Bank of Romania.

The objective of the project is to assist the BoA in the consolidation of its capacities by further aligning its legislation with the EU aquis and by contributing to the development of operational instruments supporting macroeconomic and financial stability as well as the existence of a safe, financially sound and a well-developed banking system in Albania.

The kick-off meeting of this Twinning project took place on the 20th of December 2019 in Tirana Albania.
