Building of the institutional capacity of the Investigative Centre
The Republic of North Macedonia has made numerous reform efforts to get closer to European Union (EU) legislation and gradually aligned its legislation with the acquis communitaire. In its latest progress report in 2018, the European Commission has confirmed that the country has made significant and important efforts in the area of judicial reform. In this context the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) plays a crucial role. Nevertheless, corruption and organized crime remain widespread. In order to successfully combat organized crime and corruption in the country, it is crucial to coordinate the work of the different partners and at the same time strengthen the PPO to be the leading institution for investigations in the country. Hence, with this Twinning project the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation and the Ministry of Justice of Croatia work together to support the Public Prosecutor’s Office to intensify the fight against corruption and organized crime.
The kick-off meeting of this Twinning project took place on the 13th of September 2019 in Skopje Macedonia.
